Occurrence and pattern of mandibular fractures in maxillofacial trauma of Kerala population

Objectives: Fracture of the mandible may affect a single anatomic site or frequently several sites concurrently and road traffic accidents (RTA) play prominent role. The aim this study was to analyze patient demographics, etiology, pattern, types mandibular fractures in three northern districts Kerala. Methodology: 81 patients with sustaining who visited Emergency Department Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Government Dental College, Thrissur, Kerala were recruited evaluated retrospectively. variables analyzed age, gender, fracture site, fractures. data statistically using Chi-square test determine association between variables. Results: included 104 patients. ratio males females 7.1:1. highest prevalence observed adults (88.9%) least children under 12 years age. RTA common cause (60.5%) followed by assault (27.2%). most commonly reported parasymphysis (24%), condyle (20.2%). compound (72%) comminuted (4%) least. A highly significant identified severity types.
